VPNGap's 5 Commitments to Free Users · Remember these first

Free data on registration All Nodes Open No Card Required No auto-renewal No forced ads

Free Basic Plan

Is VPNGap really completely free? Are there hidden fees?

VPNGap offers a 100% genuine free basic plan: get free high-speed data with email registration. All nodes are open, with no card required, no auto-renewal, and no forced ads throughout the process. There are no barriers to entry—decide to pay only if you're satisfied.

Are there differences in nodes and speed between free and paid users?

Free and paid users share the same physical node pool and same encryption protocol (WireGuard + AES-256-GCM) for an identical stable experience; the only difference is the data allowance. Free users won't be throttled to 'unusable' speeds or locked to low-quality nodes.

What if I run out of free data?

When data is low, you can upgrade to a paid plan for a higher allowance. VPNGap won't force recharges or require ads for basic usage — upgrading is entirely your choice.

Registration & Account

How do I register? Do I need a phone number or credit card?

Only an email is needed to register—no phone number, no credit card, no payment method required. Just click 'Register' in the app or on the site, enter your email and password, and you're ready to go with free high-speed data.

How many devices can I use with one account simultaneously?

One account supports Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux simultaneously. Share one account across your home PC, laptop, phone, and tablet—no need for multiple accounts. Check the 'Account Center' in the client for the specific device limit.

Client Download & Installation

Which devices and operating systems are supported?

VPNGap provides native clients for five platforms:
  • Windows: Supports 10 / 11 (x64);
  • macOS: Supports 11 Big Sur and higher (Universal);
  • iOS: Supports iOS 15 and higher, free on App Store;
  • Android: Supports 7.0 and higher;
  • Linux: Major distros like Ubuntu / Debian / Arch / CentOS / Fedora in .deb, .rpm, and AppImage formats.

How long until I can start using it after download?

Usually under a minute:
  1. Download the installer for your platform;
  2. Open the app and register a free account with your email;
  3. Log in and click 'Connect'—the system auto-selects the most stable line.

No manual certificates or config edits needed.

What if macOS says 'Developer cannot be verified'?

Please open 'System Settings → Privacy & Security', find the VPNGap prompt at the bottom, and click 'Open Anyway'. Our installers are signed and notarized by Apple for safe installation.

What if Android APK says 'Unknown source'?

Android blocks non-Play Store APKs by default for security. When prompted, go to 'Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps' and allow your browser or file manager. If you have access to Google Play, you can also install it from there.

Connection & Troubleshooting

What if the VPN won't connect or stays stuck on 'Connecting'?

Try these in order:
  1. Check if your local network can access other sites;
  2. Switch protocols in the client (WireGuard ↔ OpenVPN ↔ IKEv2)—WireGuard is fastest for most, but OpenVPN over TCP/443 may be needed for restricted networks;
  3. Switch to nodes in different countries;
  4. Restart the client or device;
  5. If it still fails, submit feedback via the Help Center.

Connected but pages or videos are still slow. Any fix?

Potential causes:
  • Peak hours—switch to 'Auto route selection' to let the system pick a smoother line;
  • Insufficient local bandwidth (Wi-Fi/Broadband);
  • High latency—manually try nodes in Japan, Singapore, or the US;
  • Browser extensions or ad blockers—temporarily disable them to check.

Does using a VPN significantly slow down my internet?

All VPNs introduce some speed loss due to encryption and routing. VPNGap minimizes this with dedicated physical nodes + fast WireGuard protocol + auto route selection, providing stable connections for HD video and online gaming across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and America.

Nodes & Protocols

With so many nodes, which one should I choose?

We recommend using 'Auto route selection'—the system picks the best node for your network and switches if quality drops. For specific needs:
  • Streaming Media: Japan / HK / Taiwan / Singapore;
  • AI Tools & Docs: USA;
  • European Services: UK / Germany;
  • AU Local Services: Australia.
All nodes are available to both free and paid users.

When should I use WireGuard, OpenVPN, or IKEv2?

  • WireGuard: Best for daily use, streaming, and gaming—fast handshake, strong encryption, and battery-efficient;
  • OpenVPN over TCP/443: Use when UDP is restricted or you need to mask traffic as HTTPS;
  • IKEv2: Best for mobile users frequently switching between 4G/5G and Wi-Fi, with seamless reconnect support.
WireGuard is enabled by default; no manual config needed.

Privacy & Security

Is a free VPN safe? Does VPNGap log my browsing data?

While many 'free VPNs' profit from user data, VPNGap is different: we follow a strict No-Log policy, not recording history, DNS queries, connection times, or source IPs. Free and paid plans use the same encryption protocol (WireGuard + AES-256-GCM) and security standards. We only store minimum data like email and usage for operations. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Is a VPN effective on public Wi-Fi?

Yes. Public Wi-Fi at airports or cafes is often insecure, making you vulnerable to Man-in-the-Middle attacks. With VPNGap, all traffic from your device to the server is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, hiding your content, emails, and logins from attackers on the local network.

What's the difference between a VPN and a Proxy (SS / V2Ray, etc.)?

Proxies usually only handle specific app traffic, while a VPN secures all device traffic for complete protection. Self-built or subscription proxies (SS / V2Ray / Trojan) often lack professional stability and privacy guarantees. VPNGap is a commercially operated VPN with strong encryption, auto-reconnect, and a strict no-log commitment—just download and use.

Payment & Upgrades

When should I consider upgrading to a paid plan?

If you frequently use HD video, downloads, long meetings, or share an account, the free data might run out quickly. You can then upgrade to a paid plan for a higher allowance. Pricing is on a separate page, never pushed via pop-ups.

Do paid plans auto-renew?

VPNGap has no 'auto-renewal' mechanism for any plan—when a paid plan expires, your account reverts to the free basic plan without further charges. You must manually renew to continue with a paid tier. This is our promise to all users.

Password & Management

How do I recover a forgotten password?

Click 'Forgot password' on the login screen, enter your email, and we'll send a time-sensitive verification code (check your spam folder too). Once verified, you can set a new password. Requests are limited for security.

How do I change my email or password?

Go to 'Account Settings' after logging in:
  • Change password using either a verification code or your old password;
  • Change email requires confirmation from both the new and old email addresses, with a cooldown period for security.

Can I deactivate my account or delete my data?

We are currently planning a self-service deactivation feature. For now, please submit a request via an internal ticket after logging in. We'll verify your identity and process it per our privacy policy. Since we have a strict no-log policy, there is no additional browsing history to delete.
